Choosing Between Claude Web, Official Clients, Direct API, and Cloud Platforms
Illustrative check sequence; verify against actual results.

Match the Access Channel to Your Workload

Personal chat, team workspaces, and production API integrations have distinct authentication, rate-limit, and compliance requirements.

Third-Party Wrapper Names Do Not Prove Official Authorization

Verify whether a third-party client uses official API keys orunauthorized session scraping, and never enter your Claude password or session cookies into unofficial relays.

Verify Official Cloud Partner Platforms Independently

Official cloud integrations (such as Amazon Bedrock or Google Cloud Vertex AI) use their own cloud endpoints, IAM credentials, and regional availability rules.

Troubleshoot Connectivity in the Target Runtime

Always inspect network routes and error logs in the specific environment where your SDK or client runs.

Compare web, clients, and API access by task

Identify whether the task requires interactive chat, collaboration, terminal development, or programmatic calls, then check the relevant official product. Do not assume that a web subscription, API usage, and cloud-platform billing share entitlements. Products under the same brand can have separate permissions, limits, and support channels.

Compare sign-in methods, model capabilities, regional conditions, data terms, and billing units. Enter downloads and consoles through official pages rather than providing passwords or API keys to unknown mirrors. A network tool can test part of the connection path but cannot establish that a third party is authorized.

For example, an application needing API access should verify the API account and billing even when a web subscription exists. Repeated cookie cleanup does not supply API entitlement. When moving to a cloud interface, recheck request format, model names, and billing source rather than treating a working web session as evidence of programmatic access.
